Bradley Wright: Using Dropbox as a Git repository → tumblr.intranation.com

So last month I wrote a bit about setting up your own personal Git repositories on a Linux box, and how to use that for sharing code.

I’ve had a slight epiphany since then: what if I just used the awesome Dropbox (my referral link, if you’re likely to sign up) to share Git repositories…

Decided to not use my cloud server for my source control “main server”, I am delegating that to dropbox…

Amazon to Release Ad-Subsidized Kindle for $114 → emoney.allthingsd.com

marco:

Bizarre:

Ads will appear on the device’s screen saver and show up as a banner on the homepage, but will not appear inside books.

It’s only a $25 savings from the normally-$139 Kindle 3. I’m sure they can find buyers for it, but at what cost to Amazon’s (and the Kindle’s) image?

I can’t see why this will diminish the Kindle’s image. To be honest, I don’t know how many people would actually go for version of the Kindle. I have the feeling that the Kindle demographics can afford paying the extra 25$, it’s a reading device aimed at the tech-savvy. Having Ads on forever is a steep price to pay for saving 25$. Not worth it!

That being said, I would consider having an Ad-supported Kindle if it would save me a considerable amount (100$). Though I have the sneaky feeling that the reason why they wouldn’t go past the 25$ in discount is because they are worried some hacker will root the Kindle and disable Ads.

Rackspace cloud server

I just got myself a Rackspace cloud server yesterday, I was trying the following things on it:

  1. Use it as a VPN server
  2. Use it as a Git source repository
  3. Have a server to play around with the new framework.

I am quite excited about this. I thought long and hard about going to Linode, Slicehost, or Rackspace. While Rackspace is the most expensive option if the server is deployed all month, I only plan on “using resources” or deploying my cloud server a few hours a month. I expect it to cost me a few bucks a month. I will use the Cloud File to store my images so I don’t lose all the configuration work that I’ve done setting up the systems. It is pretty cheap, about 15 cents / gig. I’ll try to post the steps I took for each tasks I did, maybe someone will find it useful.

Commenting multiple lines Vim → hurley.wordpress.com

I like to comment multiple lines from time to time. In python you can use the ”’ (three quotation marks in a row) to comment on multiple lines, but I find it seems more appropriate to use that when you want to write comments. When I want to comment multiple lines of code I just use the #. Unfortunately, until I found this, I was manually going through each line and adding a #…

I am glad I found this website!

It's the small things that matter

On the way home from my basketball, I decided to stop by this famous juice shop in town that my fiancée loves, and bought her the medium-sized drink. When I got home and presented it to her, she was so happy. Happier than I could have anticipated! This small gift made her very happy! You don’t need too buy big gift to make someone happy, it’s the small unexpected gifts that matters in life.

Why? I think it’s because it shows you appreciate the other person all the time, and who doesn’t like a surprise?!
