Bizarre:
Ads will appear on the device’s screen saver and show up as a banner on the homepage, but will not appear inside books.
It’s only a $25 savings from the normally-$139 Kindle 3. I’m sure they can find buyers for it, but at what cost to Amazon’s (and the Kindle’s) image?
I can’t see why this will diminish the Kindle’s image. To be honest, I don’t know how many people would actually go for version of the Kindle. I have the feeling that the Kindle demographics can afford paying the extra 25$, it’s a reading device aimed at the tech-savvy. Having Ads on forever is a steep price to pay for saving 25$. Not worth it!
That being said, I would consider having an Ad-supported Kindle if it would save me a considerable amount (100$). Though I have the sneaky feeling that the reason why they wouldn’t go past the 25$ in discount is because they are worried some hacker will root the Kindle and disable Ads.
